Albion might not be the average beach to lay on and swim in, but rather a picturesque village with a traditional (and operating) lighthouse over a cliff of volcanic rock. A visit is well-worth during sunset on a cloud-clear day, where the strong waves crashing on the cliff will complete the frame for a different (very romantic) evening in the west.
The lighthouse can be reached by bike following the signs in the residential village of Albion. You can enter the lighthouse for a little trip through history where posters and old-fashioned machinery will explain you its transformation in the last 100 years. Don’t hesitate climbing to the top floor for a panoramic view of Point aux Caves.
Point aux Caves gets its name from the famous caves carved by the sea in the basaltic cliff at the feet of the lighthouse. These caves are explorable at a short hike down the sea or, even better, in a kayak excursion with our conscious collaborators.
This area of unequal beauty needs the support of travellers and locals to rescue it from the settlement of a petroleum hub planned in the area of Albion. The project not only threatens its magical landscape, but also puts in danger all the marine life of this unique coastal region, home to endemic dolphins and Sperm Whales (Cachalots).
