What to Munch

What could be more important than a little something to eat?

What to Eat in Mauritius

Authentic gastronomy has for long being a motivation to travel to different corners of the globe. Mauritius is no exception, when three of the most flavorful cuisines come together in this island: the Indian, Chinese and African;
but what makes it really special is the authenticity that only local hands and produce, the Creole touch, can add to it.

With a great variety of dishes and flavours unique to our island, we can only say bon appetit!

Follow your guts

The best places to eat look clean, full and smell good!

Ask to your host: Do they have a daily dish? A menu of the day?
Restaurants near the coast commonly started with a fisherman husband, a cooking wife and hungry children. The tastiest dishes vary according to the catch of the day and, that, is what you need to try. Consume what’s wildly grown and freshly caught!

Bananas, papayas and ananas

Tropical fruits are the ideal on-the-go snack for your days on the beach and your hikes on the peaks. Rehydrate with fresh coconut water to recover twice the electrolytes that commercial sport drinks offer (with half its sodium and 20 times less sugar!) or prepare a smoothie in the mornings to start your day at the top.

We share with you our favorite detoxicating, energy-boosting juices made with local produce.

Freshness beats ‘em ALL

Fish, fruits and street food the same

We talked about it earlier, if you are looking for the best, you are looking for what’s fresh.
Our villages are well covered in motorbikes and stands offering the common to-go’s from Chinese, Indian and Creole heritage, but in our experience, patience pays-off.

Find the local shacks where faratas and dholl puri are prepared from scratch.
For a boost of healthy-fats find the pink pistas being grilled in their caraille.
Boulettes and mine bwi are better when they didn’t wait hours for you to arrive.

Note from the Editor
Medicine is not healthcare. Food is health care. Medicine is sick care. It’s time we see it for what it is.
